    DIY Ways to Improve Your Mental Health

    Mental health, often neglected, is as important as your physical health. It’s essential to take care of your mental health and keep doing something for its well-being. In current times taking care of your mental well-being is crucial. People are becoming more anxious, less patient and disappointed. They are not happy even if they are achieving, apparently. It is now more important than ever to keep your mental health as a priority. For this purpose, there are simple things you can do yourself which will help to keep your mental state good.

    Keep a track journal or planner.

    Keeping a journal can help you prioritize things. In a journal, you can write and keep track of your moods, feelings and emotions. It is a way to gain self-awareness to recognize your problems and have better control over them. Moreover, a planner is something you can use to write what you did and what you want to do. Every week you can write in it. Writing small achievements can make you feel good and motivated.

    Be Creative.

    Experiment and try new creative things, for instance, painting or playing any instrument. Learn the art and create your own style. Be creative with your space and try out new things to make it look better. Creating yourself will give your mental health a boost, making you feel skilled and worthy. Moreover, being creative and doing art is one way to vent out your inner emotion safely.

    Be Generous.

    Start giving away to those in need. Be generous towards people and do charity. Visit an old age home or an orphanage and take their lunch along. You will find happiness in giving to others and making people happy. Helping the ones in need is like helping your own soul; moreover, seeing the needy makes you grateful for your being, and you start to value little things in life.

    Show love to others.

    Do not be afraid to show love to the people you love. Send your friends letters, cards or gifts to express your love and care. Write people thank you notes and acknowledge their presence in your life. Showing love to others will make you feel blessed and loved at the same time and strengthen your relations with others. A giving relationship is healthier and long-lasting.

    Share your love

    Leave your comfort zone.

    This may not feel so easy to do. However, going out and trying new things can make your life more adventurous and exciting. Fight your fears which are holding you back, and do what you thought you could not. If you are an introvert, try socializing and participating in extracurricular activities. If you are afraid of heights, try to plan a trip to the hills and challenge yourself. If water terrifies you, You might plan a swim or even try scuba diving. Keep challenging yourself and make your life a bit more happening. Who knows, you might find yourself in the process.

    Exercise 

    To feel fit and healthy, it is important to have good mental health. Exercising daily can make you feel achieved and active. It produces hormones that reduce body stress. Light exercises can also produce hormones like adrenaline and cortisol, which helps the brain to make endorphins that act as a natural painkiller. Go for a 40 minutes walk outside or to a park or play some music at home and dance to your favourite tracks. Set easy targets and keep increasing them. But remember to never get hard on yourself.

    Meditation

    Meditation is an ancient practice done to achieve focus and contentment in a person’s life. It is important to empty your mind and soul. It slows down the brain frequency and helps you focus in a better way. Furthermore, it lowers your levels of stress and anxiety and gives your mind a break. Moreover, it boosts your self-esteem and gives a better tolerance. Meditate daily before you sleep for at least 10 to 15 minutes. Sit in a straight position with legs folded and hands on your knees, take deep breaths and focus on one sound with your eyes closed. This will help you disconnect from any other attention. You can also practice some yoga exercises to have the maximum benefits of it.

    Upgrade Your Diet.

    A healthy body is essential for a healthy mind. Keep a balanced diet to maintain your mental well-being. Add up mood-boosting food to your daily diet. Focus on eating fruits and vegetables as much as you can. 

    Along with it, add rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which include fish and leafy vegetables. Keep a handful of nuts and seeds as they are known as excellent for brain functioning. However, besides the healthy stuff, you can always have some cheat days to feel good and grab your favourite fast food item. Never be too strict.
