    5 Myths About Coronavirus

The outbreak of COVID-19 has increased the number of questions regarding this infectious virus. The internet and social media platforms are flooded with the information regarding this outbreak but not all of it is authentic. We need to follow the genuine news from sources like the World Health Organization, Utah Department of Health and Intermountain Healthcare. Only those information provided by such organizations is true, otherwise, all the things about COVID-19 are myths and false interpretations. Scientists have busted many myths about this virus. Some of them are mentioned below:

Surgical Face masks can prevent you from getting COVID-19

It is a misunderstanding that the surgical masks can prevent you from catching this virus, however, these surgical face masks can only stop the viral particles from reaching your face. According to the report generated by Live Science, the main purpose of these masks are to control the spread of the coronavirus from the infected person by blocking any droplet discharges by his mouth during coughing or sneezing.

Getting COVID-19 will lead you to death

It is a myth. As per the report generated by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 81% of the total people infected with COVID-19 have normal cases of it. Approximately 13.8% suffered from severe infection including difficulty in breathing and requiring artificial oxygen, and about 4.7% are in critical conditions facing complete breathing failure, multi-organ failure or infected shock. In light of these facts, it is clear that only 2.3% of the infected population die from the COVID-19 virus. People having weak immune systems have a high risk of having severe complications.

Vitamin C supplements will prevent COVID-19 virus to enter your body

It has not been proved by the scientists that vitamin C can improve the immune system to COVID-19 infection. However, it has been seen that most people, taking additional vitamin C does not prevent the basic cold, but it may reduce the cold length. The role of vitamin C is that it acts as an antioxidant, by neutralizing free radicals that can harm the body tissues. It enables the body to normalize hormones, produce collagen and close powerless connective tissues against pathogens.

COVID-19 cannot be transmitted in hot and humid areas

Some people think that this virus spreads in cold and humid regions, however, it is a false belief. It can be transferred to all regions of the hot and humid climate. It is a misconception that cold areas can remove coronavirus from the atmosphere. As the virus infects the body, the normal body temperature is 37°C and it remains this regardless of the surrounding temperature. Consumption of alcohol-based sanitizer in washing hands is the best measure to prevent COVID-19.

It is dangerous to get anything from China or eat Chinese food at a restaurant

As the outbreak happened in China, many people around the globe think that they may get this virus by eating anything exported from China. By this logic, you must avoid eating Italian, Korean, and Iranian cuisine too, as these countries are also facing the outbreak. Researchers have proved that the virus does not lie on the objects exported from China or other countries facing the COVID-19.

    Hand Sanitizer

    Conclusion

Some other claims and myths around the globe include that the use of garlic can decrease the risk of catching coronavirus. However, the experts of the World Health Organization have claimed that garlic contains rich antimicrobial qualities but it has not been proved that using it may protect the humans from COVID-19. As we know that today is the world of the internet, another YouTuber named Jordan Sather, having a great number of subscribers falsely admit and announce that a miracle mineral supplement (MMS) can eradicate coronavirus. The safety of such products is not declared by the Food and Drug Administration.

Another wrong thought about COVID-19 is the homemade hand sanitizer. With the increase of the use of normal hand sanitizer, it has seen a shortage of this product in the local as well as in the national market. This shortage gave rise to a homemade hand sanitizer containing 70% alcohol substances. It has been noticed the consumption of water due to coronavirus has been increased. It was noticed from a post on Facebook that a Japanese doctor has recommended drinking hot water to kill the virus entering your mouth. There is no authenticity of this news by the Japanese doctors. However, drinking water to keep yourself hydrated can save you from several diseases. The effect of climate can also not change the outbreak.
